The 23rd Annual Leacock Debate 2024
The 23rd Annual Leacock Debate on October 9, 2024, brought together over 350 of Toronto’s business leaders, philanthropists, and devoted Leacock supporters for an unforgettable night of wit and purpose at The Carlu. Co-chaired by Jessica Oliver and Jessica Arakgi, the evening featured lively discussions on the resolution, “Be it resolved the internet has ruined everything,” expertly moderated by broadcaster and writer Elamin Abdelmahmoud. Renowned debaters—comedian Martha Chaves, actor Jennifer Robertson, journalist David Sax, and podcaster Kara Swisher—added humor and insight to the evening’s debate, sparking thought-provoking discussions.
The Leacock Debate’s proceeds will directly support the Foundation’s programs, which provide enriched literacy and leadership opportunities to over 750 underserved children and youth in Toronto. Through partnerships with the Toronto District School Board and local schools, these initiatives bridge educational gaps and empower students in communities like St. James Town, Jane & Driftwood, Scarborough, and Thorncliffe Park.
With the help of generous supporters, the event raised over $340,000—a record-breaking milestone for the Leacock Foundation. Each attendee, sponsor, and speaker played a role in creating a night filled with laughter, connection, and a shared commitment to changing lives through education. Thank you for helping us make a lasting impact and bringing us closer to a future where every child has the chance to reach their full potential.
