Carbon Leadership Forum Toronto - Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards 2023
In collaboration with CLF Ottawa, the Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards were introduced to recognize and honor outstanding achievements in low embodied carbon projects throughout the province. The awards aimed to inspire creativity and empower project teams to prioritize the reduction of embodied carbon emissions.
The inaugural event, which took place on November 28th, featured four award categories:
New Construction - Residential: Recognizing excellence in low embodied carbon design for residential buildings, including both multi-family and single-family homes.
New Construction - Commercial/Institutional/Industrial: Highlighting excellence in low embodied carbon design for ICI buildings, such as offices, community buildings, schools, and more.
Major Retrofits: Acknowledging the importance of building decarbonization, this award honored excellence in low embodied carbon retrofit projects, including alterations to the building envelope and/or structure.
Innovation in Industry: Celebrating organizations in Ontario that are driving innovation in the embodied carbon sector, with applications ranging from verified portfolio commitments to policies on material purchasing and the publication of environmental product declarations.
The awards were a collaboration between the Carbon Leadership Forum Toronto and Ottawa Hubs, designed to showcase and commend projects making significant strides in minimizing their environmental impact by reducing embodied carbon footprints.
The event was an engaging celebration, featuring speakers, the presentation of awards to winners across the four categories, and ample networking opportunities. The keynote speaker for the evening was the esteemed Councillor Dianne Saxe, a renowned environmental and energy lawyer with a wealth of experience as a non-partisan expert and advocate.
Attendees had the opportunity to witness the recognition of innovation and dedication to environmental responsibility in the built environment at the Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards event held on November 28th, 2023.
