The Transformative Power of Birth - An evening celebrating innovation in the BIPOC Birth Space.
Special guest speaker Shan Boodram, an author, mother, and certified sexologist, and event MC Tanya Hayles, founder of Black Moms Connection, joined forces for an evening celebration and recognition of the unique journey of racialized maternal health care.
The evening event, held in conjunction with the annual Racialized Maternal Health Conference (RMHC), brought together clinicians, students, community members, policymakers, and researchers for discussions on racialized maternal health.
Attendees enjoyed an engaging and open discussion about motherhood and parenting through a live Q&A between Shan and Tanya, covering the journey to, through, and following motherhood.
The special event aimed to educate, inspire dialogue, and create opportunities for networking and change within the Canadian maternal health system.
The beautiful work of artist/photographer Solana Cain was also showcased. The photography exhibit, titled "Honouring Black Motherhood," was a continuation of Solana's documentary work aimed at celebrating and empowering Black Mothers. For this photo series, Solana collaborated with mothers, documenting their favourite activities to do with their infants, capturing the intimacy, joy, strength, and resiliency that Black mothers possess.
