Creating a Climate of Ethical Choices in the Bereavement Profession with Jane Ann McLachlan
Humans have been debating ethical behaviour since the first group decided to share a cave. A lot has changed, but the question, "How should we behave toward each other?" is still vitally important. In this session, we will examine Aristotle’s Virtue Ethics, a model that defines to this day ethical business and leadership practices, and how to put it into action in the bereavement profession. We will discuss questions such as:
What are my obligations to my employees/employer and what are my obligations to my clients?
Is it my business to make money or to help people, and how can I ethically do both?
We will also examine Social Contract Theory and the question, “How do I balance my individual rights and personal gain against my obligations to society and to others?”
Digital Executor®: Deep Dive on Digital Assets for Advisors with Sharon Hartung
How digital assets are managed as part of peoples’ lives and estates has gained the attention of our clients, our respective professional associations, and the media. This keynote session will focus on estate planning of a client’s digital estates and begin by exploring how the digital revolution has changed a client’s estate planning circumstances. Our clients enjoy the benefits of digital assets and their digital lives, but the notion that these be included in their estates has been neglected. This session provides useful anecdotes and suggestions to help advisors have meaningful client conversations to raise awareness of this area of estate planning. As an awareness session, this technology management-based presentation is applicable to every estate practitioner role regardless of their knowledge of technology.
