Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards 2024
On November 12, 2024, Toronto hosted a great night of celebration at the second annual Ontario Embodied Carbon Awards, where the winners were congratulated for their outstanding contributions to low embodied carbon design. The event, held in partnership with CLF Ottawa, built on the success of its inaugural year and honored projects and initiatives that pushed the boundaries in reducing environmental impact across Ontario’s built environment.
The night recognized excellence across six categories:
New Construction – Large Buildings: Awarded to the team that achieved excellence in designing commercial, industrial, institutional, or mid-to-high-rise residential structures with a focus on low embodied carbon.
New Construction – Small Buildings: Celebrated innovative low-carbon design in residential projects, including both single-family homes and low-rise multi-family buildings.
Retrofits & Reuse: Recognized teams that transformed existing structures through sustainable retrofits and adaptive reuse.
Interiors: Highlighted achievements in creating sustainable interior spaces for commercial, residential, and public environments.
Organizational & Public Sector Leadership: Honored organizations and public entities that demonstrated exceptional commitment and leadership in implementing low embodied carbon initiatives.
Innovation in Industry: Celebrated groundbreaking contributions that advanced the field of embodied carbon beyond traditional building projects.
The winners were lauded for their forward-thinking approaches and for setting new benchmarks in sustainable design, making it a memorable evening that not only celebrated past achievements but also ignited a passion for continued innovation in the industry.
