2023 ULI Americas Resilience Summit

The 4th annual Resilience Summit was held on May 15, 2023, alongside ULI's Spring Meeting at Daniels Spectrum in Toronto. This exclusive gathering brought together industry leaders in real estate and resilience, who shared practical solutions aimed at safeguarding communities and investments from climate-related risks. The ever-evolving real estate market directly influences socioeconomic pressures, which can exacerbate the impact of climate hazards on communities. Navigating these complex challenges and mitigating risks requires a comprehensive understanding of social resilience, a crucial factor in a community's ability to withstand climate-related threats.

During the summit, real estate leaders delved into the intentional understanding and support of social resilience through data analysis and investments in social infrastructure. This approach serves as a climate strategy to minimize risks and bolster a community's capacity to respond to hazards, ultimately improving overall quality of life. These proactive efforts yield numerous benefits, including meeting evolving development demands, enhancing asset value, and increasing marketability.

In the realm of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices, addressing social issues and promoting equitable development can present unique challenges for organizations. However, recognizing the significance of these social factors is essential for building resilience against climate change. This informative session explored how the real estate industry can effectively incorporate the "S" (Social) component of ESG, thereby reaping co-benefits that enhance climate resilience.
